Seven (1979) is the kind of sun-drenched, trigger-happy B-movie that knows exactly what it is: a lean, breezy Hawaiian action romp where the scenery is gorgeous, the stakes are big, and the mayhem arrives right on schedule. Andy Sidaris keeps the vibe pulpy and playful, moving from one punchy set piece to the next with the confidence of a filmmaker who understands that momentum is its own kind of storytelling. William Smith anchors the whole thing with a tough, unbothered screen presence that makes the mission feel satisfyingly direct, even when the movie is at its most gloriously outrageous. It’s not for viewers allergic to exploitation trappings—there’s nudity, blood, and rough edges—but if you want a light, escapist blast with island flavor and unapologetic grindhouse energy, this one delivers.

Seven (1979) clearly wants to be a punchy, sun-soaked mission thriller: a government agent assembles a handpicked team to take down seven cartel bosses in Hawaii on a tight clock. The problem is it often feels like a checklist of targets stitched together with heavy exposition and a mechanical structure, with pacing that drifts and plenty of stock island footage padding things out. The violence and nudity are frequent enough to signal “grindhouse action” more than serious drama, and the gimmicky kills won’t land if you’re hoping for tension or clever plotting. If you enjoy breezy, low-budget ’70s exploitation with a Hawaiian backdrop and can forgive sluggish execution, there’s some pulpy charm here; if you want a tight, suspenseful action-drama, your time is better spent elsewhere.
