The problem is the movie’s core setup is nasty and bleak (sexual threat, brothel exploitation, and brutal punishment), and the goofy humor often lands like it wandered in from a different film, creating a tonal whiplash that some viewers will find hard to sit with. It also drags in the middle, stretching the story longer than the material can comfortably support. If you’re here for clean, consistent martial-arts fun, this may feel uncomfortable and uneven; if you can handle darker themes and you mainly want inventive monkey-style action and classic Shaw-era staging, it’s still worth a look.
