Go Gorilla, Go! (1975)
Fabio Testi is an undercover cop doubling as the bodyguard (hence, “Gorilla”) of a cantankerous middle-aged industrialist targeted for extortion.
What people think about Go Gorilla, Go!
Go Gorilla Go has that rare Eurocrime electricity where the streets feel lived-in, the danger feels close, and the movie moves with the confidence of a great chase already in motion. Fabio Testi makes a terrific anchor as the undercover cop turned “gorilla” bodyguard, bringing cool restraint and bruised humanity to a job that keeps getting uglier by the minute. The action is sharp and physical, built around punchy set pieces and an intense, forward-leaning pace, all carried by a superb score that keeps your pulse just a little ahead of the next turn. If you’re not in the mood for gritty ‘70s Italian crime cinema, it may feel hard-edged, but for anyone who is, this one’s an easy recommendation.
Go Gorilla Go wants to be a tough, street-level crime thriller with Fabio Testi playing the cool undercover “gorilla” bodyguard caught in an extortion mess, and when it locks into that premise it can be solidly entertaining. The problem is it takes a while to get there: the first half is cluttered and oddly confusing, with threads that feel like they’re competing for attention instead of building momentum. A romantic detour doesn’t add much and can make the pacing feel slower than it needs to be, which won’t help if you’re coming for lean, punchy genre efficiency. Stick with it if you’re patient and mainly want a satisfying action-heavy finish; skip it if you’re looking for one of the sharper, more coherent standouts of 70s Italian crime cinema.
