Charles Duchemin, a well-known gourmet and publisher of a famous restaurant guide, is waging a war against fast food entrepreneur Tri- catel to save the French art of cooking. After having agreed to appear on a talk show to show his skills in naming food and wine by taste, he is confronted with two disasters: his son wants to become a clown rather than a restaurant tester and he, the famous Charles Duchemin, has lost his taste!

Explained

What people think about The Wing or the Thigh?

The Wing or the Thigh? is the kind of comedy that feels lovingly handmade: a fizzy, sharply observed celebration of good taste—culinary and otherwise—powered by Louis de Funès at full, glorious speed. It takes a simple premise (a revered food critic staring down the rise of industrial eating) and turns it into a brisk, mischievous romp of disguises, TV-show pressure, and father-son friction that never stops finding new ways to be funny. Claude Zidi keeps the tone bright and buoyant, with satire that’s pointed but never mean, and Coluche adds a warm, unruly counterbeat that makes the family dynamic more than just a gag machine. If you like broad, physical French comedy with a real affection for tradition—and you don’t mind the humor being of its era—this is a deliciously entertaining argument for why craft still matters.
