Deranged (1974)

Deranged is the kind of grimy, off-kilter ’70s horror that gets under your skin not with jump scares, but with a sickly sense of inevitability—and Roberts Blossom’s performance is the engine, turning Ezra Cobb into a figure who’s pitiable, repellent, and weirdly human all at once. The film’s rural Wisconsin setting feels airless and claustrophobic, as if the landscape itself is conspiring to keep you trapped in his warped little world, and the direction leans into a provocative, tabloid-real vibe that makes the madness feel uncomfortably close.
