Son of Django (1967)
The son of Django searches for the murderer of his father and is thereby involved in a war between two factions headed by former acquaintances of his famous parent.
What people think about Son of Django
Son of Django has the scrappy, sunbaked confidence of a Spaghetti Western that knows exactly what it came to do: deliver revenge, grit, and gunfire with a lean, pulpy momentum. Osvaldo Civirani drops you into a land where every handshake can be a trap and every ally comes with a price, letting Gabriele Tinti’s hardened gunslinger move through shifting loyalties and simmering vendettas like a man born from legend but forced to live with its consequences. The film’s pleasures are in its hard-edged atmosphere—saloon menace, frontier betrayals, and a preacher figure (Guy Madison) whose moral gravity adds an unexpectedly human counterweight to all that violence. If you want a polished, prestige Western, this isn’t it, but if you’re in the mood for a brisk, moody slice of 60s Italian frontier mythmaking, it’s an easy ride to saddle up for.
Son of Django is clearly trying to cash in on the Django name by mixing a revenge mystery with a ranch-war storyline, and on paper that’s a perfectly serviceable spaghetti western setup. In practice, it often feels like a patchwork of familiar genre beats—double-crosses, saloon standoffs, and grim melodrama—without the style, tension, or character depth that made the better Django-adjacent films pop. The pacing can be plodding and the emotional turns land a bit bluntly, so if you’re expecting Corbucci-level grit or iconic set pieces, you’ll likely find it pretty second-tier. Still, if you’re a completist or you enjoy straightforward, no-frills Euro-westerns with a few solid confrontations and a revenge-throughline you can follow easily, it may do the job for a lazy afternoon.
