The problem is that the narrative can feel like it’s sprinting through folklore beats without enough connective tissue, so if you don’t already know (or care to learn) Finnish mythology, you may spend a lot of time confused about who’s who and why things are happening. Performances and imagery do have an earnest, old-school charm, and the set pieces are imaginative enough to reward viewers who enjoy vintage fantasy craft. If you need tight plotting and clear character motivation, this will likely test your patience; if you’re in the mood for a dreamy, occasionally messy mythological pageant, it’s easier to enjoy.
