The problem is it plays more like a routine studio potboiler than a truly gripping adventure, with stretches that feel oddly flat for material that should be tense. Victor McLaglen’s big, blustery presence dominates so much that if you don’t enjoy loud, forceful old-school performances, the central conflict can become more tiring than exciting.
