She became famous in the 1950s and 1960s through roles in films such as Rosen für den Staatsanwalt (1959), and later through her victory in RTL's Dschungelcamp in 2009. Her life was marked by early misfortunes such as fleeing her home country and being interned as a child. Later, she also worked as a voice actress and had an eventful private life, which included a prison sentence.
